This unhinged browser game about passwords is the most messed up thing I’ve ever played-

As we’ve folded more and more of our lives into the internet, our need for grand fortress passwords has increased. Hackers are a lot smarter now! No more one-word passwords, using our own names or even having the gall to simply use “password” as the secret code to all our virtual earthly possessions. Most sites these days have some pretty strict requirements for passwords, but what if this was taken to the absolute extreme?

This is where the evilest will-breaking browser game to exist has manifested. The Password Game left me a lesser woman, a shell of myself. Created by Neal Agarwal, motivated by what I can only assume is some twisted desire to see the world burn, the goal is to create a password with increasingly maniacal rules. Rules that, by Agarwal’s own admission, “ensure [h…

This modern fantasy action RPG has you take a break from corporate life to crawl dungeons-

You’ve heard of a staycation? Well, upcoming action-adventure RPG Dungeons of Hinterberg wants you to go on a “slaycation.” That’s where you don your matching jacket and hiking boots along with your cool sword and go adventuring for a bit. Not as a serious profession, mind you, just because protagonist Luisa really needs a break.

“Welcome to Hinterberg, a new tourist hotspot in the idyllic Austrian Alps! You play as Luisa, a burnt-out law trainee taking a break from her fast-paced corporate life to conquer the Dungeons of Hinterberg. There are plenty of dungeons to find and adventures to be had in Hinterberg—will Luisa be sent packing on her first day, or remain to become a Master Slayer?” asks the Steam page.

It’s a quirky looking bit of game, just announced today dur…

Total War makers open a third development studio-

Creative Assembly has announced the formation of a new studio based in Newcastle. It will be the Sega-owned Total War and Alien: Isolation developer’s third studio after its Sussex, UK and Sofia, Bulgaria locations. The new studio will be called Creative Assembly North, or CA North, and will house a flexible team initially working on an unannounced project alongside the main CA studio in Sussex.

The Newcastle studio will be led by Giselle Stewart, an industry veteran previously in charge of Ubisoft’s Reflections, developer of the Driver series, The Crew, and Grow Home/Grow Up. “Starting a new development studio from scratch with the full support and insights of one of the UK’s oldest and largest studios is incredibly exciting. We are embracing flexibility, fast iterati…

Total War- Warhammer 3 is making one of the series’ greatest ever campaigns free for all owners-

Total War: Warhammer 3’s first update of the year has made a big change to its Immortal Empires campaign. Launched in beta, Immortal Empires has, up to now, only been available to players who own all three Total Warhammer games. But now Creative Assembly is peeling that beta tag off, and making the campaign freely available to anyone and everyone who owns plain old Warhammer 3.

That means, so long as you own the game, you can now play the Immortal Empires campaign with the base races and Lords. Those are the Demons of Chaos, Grand Cathay, Khorne, Kislev, Nurgle, Slaanesh, Tzeentch, and the Warriors of Chaos. You’ll still need the first and second games to get access to their base races and Lords, though, and you’ll need the relevant DLC to access the factions associated with them.…

We’ll see what makes Civilization 7 different on August 20 when Firaxis shows off the first gameplay of its ‘revolutionary new chapter’ in the grand strategy series-

I love a Civilization reveal. The grand strategy series has been going for 33 years, and Firaxis always finds something to change with each new one, always controversially. Civilization 6 unraveled cities into districts that span multiple hexes, for example. Will Civilization 7 stuff them back onto one tile? Or revamp something else entirely, like combat or the victory conditions? Will they make another stab at a battle royale mode? (Probably not.)

We’ll have answers later this month. First, we’ll see Civilization 7’s debut gameplay trailer at Opening Night Live, the Geoff Keighley showcase that precedes the Gamescom convention in Germany. That’ll be on August 20 at 11 am PT, viewable on the Gamescom Twitch channel.

Immediately after that, Firaxis will stream a 20 m…

That 2D League of Legends RPG from the Moonlighter devs just got an imminent release date and a gameplay trailer-

Two months after it was leaked by South Korea’s game rating board and three weeks after it was officially announced, The Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story has an imminent release date and a colourful new trailer to go with it. The game, which tells a story based around familiar LoL hero Sylas, is set to come out on April 18.

I’m not much of a LoL guy, but Mageseeker looks pretty intriguing based on what we’ve seen so far. It’s being made by Digital Sun—the same devs who made the rather good shop-sim roguelite Moonlighter—and promises a “2D pixel action RPG” where you lead a magical revolt against the tyrannical Mageseekers who rule the kingdom of Demacia. There are several proper nouns in there that don’t mean much to me at all, but I’m up for steering a revolution…

Yup, PC monitor sales have cratered too and are getting worse-

PC monitor sales were down 5.9% in 2022. If that doesn’t sound too catastrophic, the final quarter of 2022 was down 18.3% compared to the same period in 2021 and added up to the worst quarter on record. So yeah, the latest data is pretty ugly.

This is all according to the market data cork sniffers at analyst outfit IDC. Total PC monitor units shipped in Q4 2022 was just over 30.5 million units, the lowest number since IDC began tracking the market in 2008.

The dip in the PC monitor market mirrors that of CPUs and graphics cards, of course. IDC said the contraction was expected on two counts. First, the patchy global economic environment. Second, an inevitable downturn following a spike in shipments to meet pandemic driven demand for work-at-home and gaming hardware.…
