No Vampire Survivors sequel for us unless its creator comes up with something ‘radically new’-

Our favourite roguelike of 2022 isn’t likely to get a sequel any time soon. In a chat with GameSpot, Vampire Survivors creator Luca Galante said that, unless he devised some way to “offer something radically new” with a potential Vampire Survivors 2, a sequel would remain “unlikely”.

It’s not like Galante is packing it in entirely on Vampire Survivors, mind you. The reason he’s apathetic about a sequel is because he feels like the current game provides a good foundation to expand upon. “With the way Vampire Survivors is designed, we can deliver both new content and new game mechanics on the existing game,” he said, “so why make a sequel?” That goes for a “spiritual successor,” too. Galante seems wholly committed to the game he’s already made.

It’s vaguely amusing, given the …

One man’s years-long quest to train an ‘unbeatable’ Trackmania AI may have finally crossed the line-

If the constant talk about AI these days only leaves you confused then this visually satisfying video may be just the balm you need. Using a neural network and reinforcement learning, YouTuber Yosh set out on a 3 year journey to train an AI to supersede his own 17 years of Trackmania experience.

The premise is a simple one: train an AI to improve at the game and, as Yosh himself puts it, “the more it trains the better it gets”. This isn’t Yosh’s first rodeo either: he’s made previous videos experimenting with the tech and trying to create a Trackmania AI capable of beating himself. His YouTube channel has accumulated over 18 million views worldwide and sits at just under 100,000 subscribers.

The neural network is described in the video as a “mathematical tool which roughly m…

Take it from someone who’s been roleplaying for 20 years- these are the best discounts on D&D and other tabletop RPGs this Cyber Monday-

Hello, it’s me, the guy who’s constantly banging on about tabletop roleplaying games on a website that’s supposed to be about PCs. If you thought Black Friday and Cyber Monday were going to stop me, you were sorely mistaken: I’ve been digging up D&D and other TTRPG deals like some sort of polyhedral dice-obsessed badger, and I’ve got the very best ready for your waiting eyes.

With the big “OneD&D” rules update on the horizon sometime next year, it’s a weird moment for D&D 5e deals. On the one hand, a lot of books are selling at really significant discounts; on the other, it’s because they’re probably going to be made obsolete in the next 12 months. My recommendation? Use the opportunity to pick up some good adventures, which should remain compatible with the new …

The Matzah brawl- Jewish moms judge The Sims’ latest culinary addition-

The Sims has added some long-requested culinary items to its world: Matzah / matzo ball soup and challah bread. Recent years have seen the game strive to improve its representation of diverse cuisines, with Arab, Asian and Latin American foods added, and Matzah ball soup is a traditional Jewish dish that is basically chicken soup dotted with delicious dumplings. The soup can be served anytime but is especially associated with the holiday of Passover, and the campaign to add it was mostly led by community member Hufflepom.

Now this is a bit unfair to the Sims development team, who I’m sure worked very hard on getting their matzah ball soup just right, but we decided it would be fun to get a bunch of Jewish mothers to chime in on what they thought of the game’s attempt. To be…

This RTX 4070 laptop for $1,499 is as good as it currently gets for RTX 40-series deals-

Nvidia’s latest RTX 40-series graphics has plenty going for it. But value, typically, isn’t high up on the list. However, the closest you’ll get to reasonable pricing actually comes in mobile form, courtesy of this RTX 4070 MSI laptop for $1,499 from Newegg.

The broader spec is pretty solid, with 16GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD and Intel Core i7 12650H CPU. That’s an Alder Lake era chip with six performance cores and four efficient cores, which is plenty for gaming and pretty decent for productivity, including video encoding if that’s your thing.

Screen-wise, we’re talking 15.6-inch IPS 144Hz. So, nothing ground breaking but a decent platform for all round visuals and performance.

Indeed, you can say that about this laptop as a whole. It may only have last-gen CPU tech, but esp…

This unhinged browser game about passwords is the most messed up thing I’ve ever played-

As we’ve folded more and more of our lives into the internet, our need for grand fortress passwords has increased. Hackers are a lot smarter now! No more one-word passwords, using our own names or even having the gall to simply use “password” as the secret code to all our virtual earthly possessions. Most sites these days have some pretty strict requirements for passwords, but what if this was taken to the absolute extreme?

This is where the evilest will-breaking browser game to exist has manifested. The Password Game left me a lesser woman, a shell of myself. Created by Neal Agarwal, motivated by what I can only assume is some twisted desire to see the world burn, the goal is to create a password with increasingly maniacal rules. Rules that, by Agarwal’s own admission, “ensure [h…

This modern fantasy action RPG has you take a break from corporate life to crawl dungeons-

You’ve heard of a staycation? Well, upcoming action-adventure RPG Dungeons of Hinterberg wants you to go on a “slaycation.” That’s where you don your matching jacket and hiking boots along with your cool sword and go adventuring for a bit. You play as Luisa, a burnt-out law trainee taking a break from her fast-paced corporate life to conquer the Dungeons of Hinterberg. There are plenty of dungeons to find and adventures to be had in Hinterberg—will Luisa be sent packing on her first day, or remain to become a Master Slayer?” asks the Steam page.

It’s a quirky looking bit of game, just announced today dur…

Total War makers open a third development studio-

Creative Assembly has announced the formation of a new studio based in Newcastle. It will be the Sega-owned Total War and Alien: Isolation developer’s third studio after its Sussex, UK and Sofia, Bulgaria locations. The new studio will be called Creative Assembly North, or CA North, and will house a flexible team initially working on an unannounced project alongside the main CA studio in Sussex.

The Newcastle studio will be led by Giselle Stewart, an industry veteran previously in charge of Ubisoft’s Reflections, developer of the Driver series, The Crew, and Grow Home/Grow Up. “Starting a new development studio from scratch with the full support and insights of one of the UK’s oldest and largest studios is incredibly exciting. We are embracing flexibility, fast iterati…

Total War- Warhammer 3 is making one of the series’ greatest ever campaigns free for all owners-

Total War: Warhammer 3’s first update of the year has made a big change to its Immortal Empires campaign. Launched in beta, Immortal Empires has, up to now, only been available to players who own all three Total Warhammer games. But now Creative Assembly is peeling that beta tag off, and making the campaign freely available to anyone and everyone who owns plain old Warhammer 3.

That means, so long as you own the game, you can now play the Immortal Empires campaign with the base races and Lords. Those are the Demons of Chaos, Grand Cathay, Khorne, Kislev, Nurgle, Slaanesh, Tzeentch, and the Warriors of Chaos. You’ll still need the first and second games to get access to their base races and Lords, though, and you’ll need the relevant DLC to access the factions associated with them.…
